NATO is an acronym that stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO is a military defense alliance of different countries in the North Atlantic region of the planet, it was formed in 1949. In layman's terms, if an aggressor attacks one member of NATO, other NATO countries will come to it's aid. NATO is also known as the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance. There are currently 32 countries that are part of NATO.
