On April 21, 2022 Barack Obama gave a speech at Stanford University where he spoke about the problems with online content moderation. Seeing how Obama used to teach Constitutional Law at University of Chicago you would think he would know about Reno v. ACLU[1] where the Supreme Court Unanimously decided[2] that The First Amendment applies too online speech, and that the internet was a Free speech Zone[3]. He should also know Hate speech is protected speech[4] and is legal. To be clear just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean social media companies have to allow it, it just means the Government can’t censor it. Which makes it odd, that three days later it was announced that Nina Jankowicz would be heading up the Disinformation Governance Board.
